The information contained within both
Infobase and Engage provides a detailed summary of the
size and scope of the voluntary and community sector in
Glasgow. This information is useful to a wide
range of organisations, including Community Planning
Partners and associated bodies wishing to engage with
the sector. The system provides contact details
for hundreds of organisations in Glasgow, and in
particular, Engage presents the contact information in
an easily accessible format, including mailing lists.
With the greater access to this type and
format of information should come a greater awareness
and appreciation of what the information should be used
for. Coupled with this should be a greater
recognition that details should be used responsibly when
implementing engagement or consultation activity.
Community Planning Partners in Glasgow
have developed a Community Engagement Protocol which
provides guidance on good practice for community
engagement amongst partner agencies. It sets out
how agencies might wish to coordinate engagement
activities. The protocol includes clear steps for
developing an agreement for community engagement
initiatives. The document sets out four key
pillars for community engagement:
establish why community engagement
initiatives are being undertaken?
at what level the initiatives should
be pitched?
when should initiatives or
activities be developed and delivered?; and
have a clear idea of who should be
engaged?
All organisations who use the
information contained within Engage are strongly recommended
to follow the Community Engagement Protocol.
The Engage resource is one element of a range of
activity being implemented by Community Planning
Partners to help support better community engagement in
Glasgow. To find out more please visit the
Community Planning website at www.glasgowcpp.org.uk.
